Nature site of San Juan de la Peña
(Jaca)
Pilgrims who start the Aragones route
at Somport will find in Jaca an exceptional scenery, declared
Nature Site of National Interest in 1920 (the third Protected
Natural Site at that time). Recently, it was declared Natural
Monument. This place is known especially for its historical
aspect. |

Foz de Arbayun Nature Reserve (Navarre)
Following the Aragonese Route, in Navarre,
pilgrims will find the Foz de Arbayun Nature Reserve, right
in the Sierra Leire. Covering a total area of 1,164 h, it
is the largest of the three reserves incorporated into the
Foz de Lumbier since 1987. This spectacular and deep canyon
cut by the Salazar has a lenght of 6 km and a maximum depth
of 385 km. It is considered an area of Special Protection
for birds, and has a great geomorphological value. |
Bértiz Nature Park (Navarre)
Bértiz Nature Park is not located
along the Route to Santiago, but it is worth deviating from
the itinerary to visit it. Bértiz is located in the
northwest of the Autonomous Community of Navarre, between
the Baztán Valley and the Irrigation of the Bidasoa.
To the south this river borders the park. In some areas of
the Baztán valley the altitude is less than 200m above
sea level. |

Sierra Cebollera
Nature Park (La Rioja)
The Sierra Cebollera Nature Park, created
in March 1995, is 50 km south of Logroño, in the Cameros
area. This beautiful park, the first protected area in La
Rioja, extends along more than 23,000 h. It includes a broad
variety of animal and plant species, including vast wooded
areas in an excellent state of conservation. The numerous
examples of glacial reliefs are one of the most representative
in the peninsula. |
Ojo Guareña
Nature Park (Burgos)
While in Burgos, pilgrims can make the
most of their stop and visit a scenery that is unique in Spain.
Ojo de Guareña contains the vastest extension of caves
in Spain, and one of the world´s most important. They
cover a total area of approximately 100 km. In the interior
of these caverns can be found invertebrates species that cannot
be found anywhere else. |

National Reserve of
Fuentes Carrionas y Fuente Cobre (Palencia)
In the northest part of Palencia, near
the borders with Cantabria and León, is located the
National Reserve of Fuentes Carrionas y Fuente Cobre, a
natural scenery of exceptional beauty. This mountainous
area includes remarkable glacial morphologies. The park,
with a total area of 80,000 h, covers ten municipalities:
Aguilar de Campoo, Brañosera, Castrejón de
la Peña, Cervera de Pisuerga, Dehesa de Montejo,
La Pernía, Polentinos, San Cebrián de Múda,
Triollo and Velilla del Río Carrión.

San Emiliano
Valley Nature Park (Leon)
In the north of the León province,
not far from the Sierra Ancares, walkers can enjoy San Emiliano
Valley Nature Park, a scenery with important contrasts between
the abrupt mountain reliefs and the deep valleys. It is located
at the foot of a huge rock, Peña Ubiña (2,417
metres) and it stretches along 55,200 h between the Babia
and Luna valleys. The park shows the marks left by glacial
erosion and clear examples of Karstic relief. |

As Fragas Do Eume
Nature Park (A Coruña)
After having made the pilgrimage to
Santiago, pilgrims can enjoy the beautiful A Coruña
province since they are in no hurry. The As Fragas de Eume
Nature Park is located to the north of the province, between
Cabanas, A Capela, Monfero, Pontedeume and As Pontes de
García Rodríguez. With a total area of 9,126
h, As Fragas do Eume is the last Nature Park in Galicia
(declared 11 August, 1997).
